A VIBRANT new mural is brightening up part of Worcester city centre.

Students and staff from Worcester Sixth Form College teamed up with Worcester Arts Workshop and local schools to create the eye-catching artwork.

The mural has been painted on a large wall on the exterior of the arts workshop, in Sansome Street.

Its aims were to highlight what a vibrant city Worcester is, capturing its historical background in a contemporary way.

The concept was devised and developed by Alice Malone, art and design teacher at Worcester Sixth Form College, who said: "It has always been a dream of mine to facilitate a large scale collaborative work of art in the community for everyone to enjoy.

"What appealed to me was the opportunity for links to be made with other schools and organisations.

"As soon as the location of the mural was decided, I contacted various Worcester schools such as Nunnery Wood High School, The Chantry High School and Bishop Perowne CE College to invite them to come up with original designs based on Worcester’s youth, heritage and diversity.

"These designs were then put together with the help of our skilled art students and staff at the Worcester Sixth Form College to create the final design.”

Worcester Arts Council provided a grant towards the cost of the work.
