A WOMAN who found a snake on her doorstep has described being "absolutely petrified" after discovering the brightly-coloured creature.

We reported how police were called after the snake was found on an Evesham doorstep.

Officers went to the home in St Mark's Close, Evesham, but were forced to hunt for the snake as it had slithered into her garage.

The snake was eventually captured and identified as a milk snake.

It has been taken to Vale Wildlife Hospital for safekeeping.

The discovery was made at around 10pm on Friday.

The woman, who has asked not to be named, said it was spotted on the doorstep by her husband.

She said: "It was the cat that spotted it.

"He must have known it was dangerous because he got quite a distance between him and this snake.

"We wondered why he was making funny noises.

"My husband said, 'oh my god it's a snake.'

"I thought, 'oh my god, look at the colours.'

"It looked really exotic.

"We weren't expecting to see something that length. We think it was a good metre long.

"We were absolutely petrified."

The couple called a neighbour to identify the snake and initially thought it was dead but realised it was alive after touching it.

The woman said: "He started to move and slithered underneath the garage door.

"We blocked it off with a pole.

"It completely freaked us both out."

The couple googled pictures of snakes to try and compare it and called the Wildlife Hospital and the RSPCA but were unable to find anyone to help so called the police.

She said: "The police were just really great. They were lovely.

"It had climbed up the garage wall at the far end and had gone into a holdall we had at the top of the cupboard.

"When it was disturbed it slithered out and started hissing and it's tongue came out."

Police finally managed to get the snake into a bucket and it was taken to the Vale Wildlife Hospital where it will stay for the weekend.

In our earlier report, we told how West Mercia's Operations and Communications Centre tweeted about the incident.

A spokesman said: "At about 10pm last night, we had a call from a member of the public.

"She had opened the door and found a snake on her front porch.

"We sent two officers to the scene but it had moved from the porch into the garage.

"The officers did find it and manage to secure it.

We contacted a local wildlife hospital and they have taken it for the weekend.

"We'd like to appeal to anyone who has lost their milk snake to come forward.

"If nobody claims it it will go to the RSPCA who will rehome it."

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting 901s210717.
