BUSINESSES swung into action for charity by holding a successful 'non-golfers day' at a local club.

Worcester accountancy practice SW&A Accountants and signage specialists City Signs raised £705 for the MS Society during a 'non-golfers day' held at Ravenmeadow Golf Club, in Hindlip.

A mix of 32 golfers and many ‘never played before’ newcomers to the sport took part in the event, with the winning team comprising Kathy Winnell from Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, Andrew Day from True Potential Wealth Management, Stuart Fleming from 1st Point Communications and Christina Darling from PrimeMix Marketing.

SW&A Accountants, based in Hallow, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year while City Signs has been in business for nearly 60 years.

Working with local firms, the businesses ensured that every hole of the competition was sponsored, with Sterling Networks the main clubhouse sponsor.

SW&A founder and managing director, Neil Sysum, said: “This is a completely new event for us but we’re delighted that it went so well and were blessed with such glorious sunshine.

"We were pleased to see so many of the sponsors come along to enjoy the day too.

"The training provided by the professionals at Ravenmeadow was second to none and we are already in talks about them hosting the event again next year."

Darren Wilkins, managing director at City Signs, said: "This is an event that both myself and Neil have taken part in in the past and always had great fun. "After a few drinks one evening we thought it would be great organise a joint event and raise some funds for a very worthwhile charity.

“We were so grateful for the support of many local Worcestershire businesses that enabled us to raise the money we did.

"Everyone who attended had a memorable day and we are looking to running the same event next year."

The event was a big hit with the newcomers, with SW&A’s own Amy Smith winning an award as 'most promising golfer' and, as a result, now having some lessons booked at Ravenmeadow.

Andy Jarrett, from the MS Society, said: “I’m so grateful to SW&A Accountants and City Signs for all the hard work they put into organising what can only be described as a fun-filled event, the course and facilities were lovely and the training for the non-golfers provided by Ravenmeadow was simply brilliant.

“The funds raised on the day are gratefully received and I can’t thank these two and the sponsors enough for all they have done."
