A MALVERN Link councillor has been working with managers at Worcestershire County Council to reduce queueing outside the town's popular recycling site.

Traffic often builds up quickly outside the centre at Worcester Road in Newland, particularly at weekends when good weather has prompted a lot of gardening activity.

Cllr Paul Tuthill said: "I am only too aware that at weekend some customers to the site cause traffic hold-ups by queuing on the main road. This can cause queues well back into Malvern Link, and I have had a number of complaints about this particularly on Sundays

"As a first step, the managers are going to publicise the opening hours, as there can be times, particularly at the end of the day, when the site is relatively quiet."

The opening hours are 8am to 6pm on Mondays to Saturdays, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. The hours are set by the planning permission for the site.

"In addition the managers are going to put in place some revised operating guidelines to ensure that at the start of busy days the containers are empty, as swapping containers when the site is open to the public can disrupt access to the site.

"It is very good that this recycling facility is well used and popular. We trust users will assist us in minimising disruption."
