A SHOCKED witness watched a man mown down by a car outside a Worcester supermarket after a fight in the middle of the road.

The witness, who did not wish to be named, was walking along Pheasant Street in Worcester near Asda when he saw two shirtless men - one blond and one dark haired - fighting at around 4pm on Wednesday.

“I was walking from the direction of Aldi along Pheasant Street towards St Paul’s Street," he said.

"I could see a lot of people looking at some kind of commotion. There were two men squaring up to each other to have a scrap.

"It was a bit amateurish. Neither of them were throwing punches. The people with them were trying to break it up.”

He said a dark-red, five-door car, possibly a Renault, had been ditched on the Asda car park roundabout, hampering the traffic.

After the fight finished the blond man got into the car and the dark-haired man jumped on the bonnet and attacked the windscreen.

The blond-haired man then got out of the car again and attempted to continue the fight before he got back in the car again. The witness could not tell whether or not the blond man was the driver or front seat passenger.

He added: “The car accelerated at him (the man with dark hair) from five to seven yards away as he walked towards the car park.

"He wasn’t aware this was happening. The car hit him pretty hard. He landed on the ground bottom first. The bonnet almost seemed to scoop him up like being tossed by a bull. There was a bang when he hit the hood. It was quite shocking. The guys in the car seemed really unpredictable.”

The witness said the man was on the pavement when the car hit him. The man got up, apparently unhurt and continued to walk away.

The car was then driven off in the direction of Lowesmoor.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We received reports of a suspected collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle.

"It is believed this happened near to a premises on Pheasant Street, and that an altercation had happened beforehand."

The men were were both of average build with the dark-haired man taller than the blond-haired man by three to four inches.
