SCHOOL children have been offered the chance to have their say on plans for a new play area.
Upton Town Council has shown the designs to youngsters at two local schools.
Pupils at Upton Primary School and Hanley Castle High School were particularly excited about the prospect of a zip wire in the new play area, in New Street, Upton.
Cllr Henrietta Ross, a member of Upton Town Council's sport and recreation task and finish group, said: “There is some play equipment in Upton already but it hasn’t been upgraded for many years.
"There is not much there at the moment for seven to 12-year-olds and bar the skate park [there is] no actual play equipment for teenagers."
Cllr Andrea Morgan, a member of the town and district councils, added that she was delighted to see local children's enthusiasm for the plans.
She said: “I think we know now that the children want a zip wire. That came out as top choice at both the primary school and high school.
"But we also want to know what else people want, for example extra benches, lighting or CCTV."
Cllr Shirley Dobbin, a member of Upton Town Council, said: "They [the children] enjoyed sticking stickers on the five things they liked."
Ms Dobbin added that some of the kids told her they want the skate park railings to be moved as they hit them with their scooters.
The council will be able to tap into up to £266,800 in section 106 contributions from developer Taylor Wimpey, as a result of the construction of 58 dwellings in Ryall Road, Upton.
The play area plans will be displayed in the library over the next few weeks.
