A MAN has died following a stabbing at a nightclub in the early hours of today (Sunday, August 6).

Police were called to Chicago Rock Cafe on the High Street, Stourbridge, shortly before 1am this morning, where the incident had taken place.

A 24-year-old man, who has been named locally as Ryan Passey, was rushed to hospital with a chest wound but died shortly after.

A forensic post-mortem examination is due to take place later today. Part of the High Street remained cordoned off today as officers carried out investigations at the scene.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a stabbing that took place in the Chicago’s bar in Stourbridge just before 1am this morning (Sunday 6 August).

“A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with a chest wound, which unfortunately proved to be fatal. A forensic post-mortem is due to take place later today.

“Investigations remain on-going and a police cordon remains in place this morning on the Rye Market in Stourbridge.”

Detective Chief Inspector Edward Foster said: “I am appealing for anyone with information, or who was present at Chicago’s on the night of Saturday 5 August to call me.”

A spokesman for Chicago's added: "We're devastated by the events of last night, when a customer tragically lost their life and would like to extend our sincere condolences to family and friends at this very sad time.

"We're cooperating fully with the Police investigation and would urge any witnesses to contact West Midlands Police."

Shocked friends and revellers have taken to social media to express their sadness over the stabbing.

Team Dudley, Dudley College’s sports development department, posted a tribute on Facebook: “Everyone at Team Dudley is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Ryan Passey. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this time. R.I.P.”
