A local charity supporting women with breast cancer and their families is to benefit from this year’s Worcester Show.

Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven will have a stand in Gheluvelt Park on Sunday, August 13, selling cakes, cards, and charity merchandise and there will also be collection tins at other stalls across the show.

They offer clinical services, support and assistance for patients at Worcestershire Breast Unit on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site.

Worcester Show will also donate part of the parking fees for the day to Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

Lexi Craigie, fundraising manager for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, said: “We feel very lucky to be receiving so much support from the Worcester Show. It’s a real honour and we hope lots of people will have a great time on the day and enjoy supporting our important work.”

Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven raises money to be able to offer complementary therapies at the unit every Thursday and also provides any clinical needs of the unit’s team over and above NHS provision, helping to keep the unit at the forefront of patient care.

Other activities and support include well-being evenings, Pink Ribbon Pilates, an informal support group and Look Good Feel Better Masterclasses, with much more on the cards.

Gerry Leith, chair of the Worcester Show Committee, said: “This is the first time the Worcester Show has supported a particular charity, but the organising committee felt this was a cause that touches so many people’s lives – everybody knows somebody affected by breast cancer – that it was a great thing to be doing.”

This year’s Worcester Show, supported by Platinum Property Agents, promises to be bigger and better than ever, with organisers hoping to top the record 10,000 people who attended last year.

One of the highlights of the event will be the judging of 120 competitive classes, which range from growing a wide variety of fruit and vegetables to displaying flowers and floral decorations, creative handicrafts and photography, baking and modelling.
