SEAGULLS have been blamed for strewing rubbish on a picturesque riverside path in Worcester.

A Worcester resident sent in these pictures, showing a litter scattered around a bin in the side of the Severn close to the railway viaduct.

The resident said: “This is the last thing you want to see on a bright summer’s morning.

“The river is one of the jewels in Worcester’s crown and it’s such a shame to see the riverside littered like this.

“It doesn’t give the city a good image. People were having to walk around this mess, when they should be enjoying an early morning stroll.”

A Worcester City Council spokesman said: "We litter pick and empty all the bins along the riverside on a daily basis.

"We have been monitoring this area as there have been issues with seagulls – the probable cause of mess in this photo.

"Any feedback we get on litter issues is really useful, because it helps us to check if our bins are in the best possible location, and to review our cleansing arrangements where necessary.”

Members of the public can report any litter-related issues by calling the Worcestershire Hub on 01905 722233.
