THREE morning crashes on the same busy road caused it to shut.

Build ups of traffic followed three incidents on the A44, Bromyard Road in the St John's area of the city as parts of the road were closed and re-opened between 6.20am and 8.40am.

In the first incident, a car flipped onto its roof near to The Bedwardine pub at 6.25am.

The car turned over following a crash between a blue Peugeot 307 and a white van with a 55 year old man taken to hospital with a shoulder injury and chest pains.

At 6.43am a black Mini Cooper crashed into a red Renault Cleo near to Comer Road at the city end of the road.

Ambulance service staff witnessed the crash on their way to the first incident, but did not have to treat any casualties.

A car also crashed into a Nisa lorry outside the Nisa Local shop at 7.21am.

The driver was treated by ambulance staff as a precaution for minor chest pains and a minor hand injury but did not want to go to hospital.

Charlie Hirons, whose husband Nathan Hirons was driving the car which crashed with the lorry said: "My husband could not see the lorry because of the low sun, I think that is why there have been so many crashes this morning.

"He is being treated by the ambulance service for chest pains but it isn't that serious, he was the only one in the car.

"It did shake him up a bit (the crash), it is quite lucky it was not worse, as it is it is just an inconvenience."

An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named said: "A car flipped outside the pub (The Bedwardine) and that started things off. People trying have been trying to get around it. It has been crazy this morning."

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "West Mercia Police were called between 6:25am and 7:21am this morning (Tuesday, 15 August) following three separate road traffic collision on the Bromyard Road, in Worcester.
