TWO University of Worcester students have advised others not to panic over the Clearing process. Students across the country will be receiving their A Level results on Thursday, August 17, and also whether or not they have got a place at university. Many students, for a variety of reasons, may find themselves in the Clearing process in order to get a university place. Laura Taylor, 23, from Kempsey near Worcester, applied this way to study LLB Law at The University of Worcester. She said: “I wanted a new career challenge and decided to go to university to study Law. I was concerned that I didn’t have any relevant qualifications, but this was not an issue.” She said that the process was “extremely straightforward,” and recommends that students in Clearing are determined and show passion for what they want to do, “if you can demonstrate that you are capable, it will put you in a very good place to get on your chosen course.” Laura won the LLB Prize for Academic Achievement and the Parkinson Wright Prize. She said: “I have loved every moment of university, there are so many fantastic opportunities that I have taken part in.” Chelsea Garner, 19, from Rock near Kidderminster, applied for the same course through Clearing after changing her mind about her previous choices. She said: “Being in Clearing seems to have a mis-perception of being a negative thing, yet you never know in what circumstances you may find yourself there. “My advice would be not to panic as with the opportunities and available courses within Clearing, you are certainly going to find something that is right for you.” The University of Worcester has places available for students through Clearing. The hotline is 01905 855111 and is open now for anyone collecting BTEC results and Access qualifications. It will remain open on results day. -- Katharyn Daniels
