HIGH-flying Malvern Town made it four wins from four in West Midlands League Premier Division with a 4-0 victory over Dudley Sports at Hillcrest Avenue.

Jay Sauntson, Matt Turner, Kyonn Evans and Shaun Smith got on the scoresheet as Malvern maintained their place at the top of the table.

Town suffered a shock defeat to Dudley in January, but there was to be no repeat of that performance as they took just two minutes to open the scoring. A Luke Molloy free-kick found Jay Sauntson who headed the ball into the far corner of the net.

Dudley responded as a long throw bounced around in the danger area with neither side getting a clean kick until Smith cleared the ball.

On the quarter of an hour mark, Turner turned and shot wide after latching onto Adam Sauntson’s through ball before Town made it 2-0 two minutes later. Josh Weatherby played a wonderful ball over the defence for Turner to trap and finish.

Malvern continued to chances as Smith went close, but Dudley also threatened as Zaqib Hussain curled in a shot which went just over the bar.

Moments before the break, Smith headed in a corner, but the goal was disallowed as the referee had blown for a foul.

However there was still time for Town to grab a third ahead of the half-time interval as Evans took the ball to the byline before his cross looped over keeper Liam O’Dowd and into the net.

Despite being 3-0 ahead, Town had suffered a double blow in the opening period.

They were forced into two changes with Weatherby going off with a foot injury and Molley substituted with a calf problem.

But fortunately for Town Josh King was excellent in between the sticks as he pushed Adam Skeldon’s shot around the post for a corner.

He was forced into another superb stop on 53 minutes when he denied Sheldon from point blank range.

With 15 minutes to go, Malvern almost caught Dudley on the break as Evans intercepted the ball and ran towards the box before earning a corner.

From the resultant set-piece Smith then bundled the ball home to wrap up an emphatic victory.

A minute from the end Dudley broke away, but King saved a shot with his legs to protect the Town’s first clean sheet of the season.
