DROITWICH were dominated by Colwall with both bat and ball as a crushing 169-run defeat left them on the brink of relegation from Worcestershire Cricket League Division One.

Despite grabbing an early wicket Spa’s bowlers were made to toil as Colwall posted 260-8 with three batsman reaching half-centuries.

Top scorer Mike King (75) then claimed 4-24 but not before opening bowler Mike Gooch ripped through the top order with a devastating burst of unplayable deliveries.

At 5-3 there was no way back for Droitwich as only Max Young (40) provided any real resistance.

The Spa innings ended in the 25th over and they now need a trio of maximum-point wins plus other results to go their way if they are going to miraculously avoid the drop.

The seconds took another step towards promotion from Division Two as they brushed aside Bromyard at St Peter’s Fields.

Spa romped to a 10-wicket win in less than 15 overs after bowling out the Herefordshire side for just 68.

The writing was on the wall for the visitors after opener Tom Bussey, who scored an unbeaten 148 the previous week, was stumped in the second over off Dave Stephens.

Carl Thomson then took centre stage to rip through the middle order in a devastating spell of 5-21 from 13 overs.

Veteran Martin Woodward went for just two runs in his nine overs as Bromyard eventually succumbed in the 43rd over.

Stephens finished with 1-10 from eight overs and Ollie Sankey returned 2-11 from nine.

Despite offering several chances Martyn Keen (39 not out) and James King (24no) saw their side home and gave Spa a 12 point lead over nearest challengers Cookley.

The thirds and fourths ended their Division Five campaigns with mixed fortunes against Romsley and Hunnington.

A superb all-round team performance saw the thirds collect an emphatic 98-run win.

Spa posted 210-6 from 45 overs which was built around an excellent opening stand between Mark Smith (63) and Adam Keen (29) and impressive boundary hitting from Callum Goddard who smashed 46 off just 24 balls.

Captain for the day Nick Sankey lead from the front to stifle the Romsley reply with three wickets and there was a treble for Matt Gurr too.

Gurr delivered probably his best spell of the season as the hosts were shot out in the 35th over with Spa’s fielders clinging on to their catches.

At St Peter’s Fields Romsley romped to a 10-wicket success over Spa fourths as they breezed past their 111-run target in just 13.1 overs with Steve Treadwell whacking 74 not out.

On Saturday Spa firsts entertain fellow basement side Eastnor while the seconds travel to promotion rivals Chaddesley Corbett.
