WORCESTER News readers have been having their say on the plans for the transformation of Crowngate Shopping Centre - and there has been mixed response.

Earlier this week we reported on the £1.5 million revamp, which was given approval by Worcester City councillors.

The scheme includes the renovation of empty units, and refurbishment of the facade and main entrance to shopping centre from Friary Walk.

Presterjohn wrote on the Worcester News website: "This is long overdue as that part of Crowngate is pretty tired," while Timevans said: "Good to see more investment in Worcester city centre.

"Cathedral Square has raised the bar, the rest of the city must invest and improve."

But OriginalG wrote: "Looks pretty bland.

"The look and feel of it clearly doesn't attract new, larger, retailers and needs major work to lift it out of the 90s look which is dated."

And Lin Hale said: "I know it's an artist impression - I've never seen that many people walking in Angel Place.

"It needs something doing down there."

Nathan Preedy said: "There are very few other towns and cities in the Midlands that are having as much money spent on them as Worcester.

"One major redevelopment next to the cathedral has just been completed and now plans are announced for a brand new development.

"We are so lucky that all these redevelopment schemes are happening - far too many towns and cities are just being left to rot."

And Lily Rose echoed the comments, saying: "So much negativity.

"It is definitely time the frontage to this part of Crowngate was brought up to date, it is definitely looking tired and since the outside market area was changed this has been highlighted.

"Don't understand comments about footfall - this area is always busy.

"We are all too blame for the lack of shops as so many of us shop online."

Nicole Campbell, asset manager at the Crown Estate, which owns Crowngate, said the regeneration will attract a more diverse mix of occupiers, enhancing what is already on offer and added it will create new job opportunities.
