A MOTHER is searching for a man who rescued her son from falling in the canal at Worcester.

Julie Anderson and her family from Hull, were narrow-boating at Worcester Marina when her 12-year-old son reached over from the bank towards the boat they had hired.

The boat, with is grandparents on board, then drifted away from the bank, leaving Mrs Anderson's son struggling to avoid falling into the water.

This was when a man, rushed to help the boy and both soon plunged into the water before managing to clamber back onto the boat.

Mrs Anderson, who was on the bank with the rest of her family, said: "I want to find the man to thank him for what he did, there were people standing around and watching but he helped as soon as he saw what was happening.

"My son reached out towards the boat but my husband called for him to stop, in case it drifted away from the edge. The boat started drifting and he was almost falling, next thing I know this man and my son were in the water hanging onto the boat.

"My son used the man as a human ladder to get on the boat and the man managed to ( get himself onto the boat) as well.

"My daughter thinks he said his name was Jase or Jason. He was a slim, physically fit looking man with a clean shaven head and he told us he only lived five minutes away, I think he was probably in his mid to late 40s, I hope that someone might recognise this description because we would like to thank him.

"We would like to thank him from the bottom of our hearts for his help that evening, it was extremely appreciated by us all and we are sorry that in amongst all the chaos we didn't get to thank him enough at the time.

"I hope you read this Jase or Jason, if my daughter got that right- apologies if not. Thank you so much once again for your generous help.

"I think my son would have been ok as there were four of us there and the water didn't look that deep. My son is a strong swimmer but the way the man just rushed to help straight away was amazing.

"When we said that, he asked what else he could have done but there were people just watching."

The incident happened at about 7.30pm on Tuesday August 15.
