ARMED police swooped on a Worcester street following reports of a gun being fired.

Officers were called to the scene in Carlisle Road, Ronkswood, at 5.40pm last night (Wednesday, August 30) after residents spotted two men, one with a handgun and a second with a handheld crossbow.

West Mercia Police said there were no injures reported. No arrests have been made as a result of the incident. 

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to an incident in Carlisle Road, Worcester, after residents reported hearing a pistol being fired and seeing two men, one with a handgun and a second with a handheld crossbow.

"Officers attended the location, including firearms officers as a precaution.

"Nobody was injured during the incident. Investigations are ongoing."

Eyewitness Hussan Javed said: "I entered in Carlisle Road, I saw five to six police vehicles there with their flashing light on.  

"I saw armed police and a lot of crowds of people near houses. They were on both sides of the road but mostly around one house.

"It was my first time I’d see armed police on road and I was so scared.

"I heard the policeman saying to people ‘move away and get back to your houses'."
