SALT produced at Droitwich Spa will be going on sale for the first time in 100 years this weekend.

Churchfields Farm, the official producer and distributor of Droitwich’s famous salt, is set to launch its products at the Salt Fest this weekend.

Among the products it will be launching are pure Droitwich salt, salted butter, salted caramel ice cream and salted fudge made by Wychbold Fudge.

Coun Richard Morris of Wychavon District Council said: “This is a really momentous Salt Fest as for the first time in 100 years Droitwich pure brine salt goes back on sale. We are so thrilled at the professional job Churchfield’s Farms is doing at bringing this product to market.”

Gillian Kerton of Churchfields Farm said: "Having the opportunity to bring this incredibly pure salt to market is a great honour. As a local business we’re thrilled to be putting Droitwich on the culinary and heritage map.”

Churchfields are not only launching at the town's festival, but are also taking the product to launch at Ludlow’s famous food festival the same weekend, one of the most noteworthy in the culinary calendar.

Patrick Davis, organiser of Droitwich Food Festival added “It’s fantastic to launch this amazing salt at our local festival, but to take it to Ludlow as well is a real bonus. We’ll be making sure some of the best chefs in the country are offered the opportunity to try this unique product which will start to put Droitwich Spa on the foodie map.”

Salt Fest, in Vines Park, starts on Saturday at 10.30am. Throughout the day, visitors are treated to a variety of entertainment and activities including meeting the Romans and their living history displays, canal boat trips, circus skills, art and craft activities for all ages, trade stalls and inflatables.

Sunday hosts the ever-popular dog show whilst all the activities from the first day are repeated plus a fun duck race.
