A SPATE of attempted burglaries hit shops and businesses in Warndon in the same night.

There were four attempts to break-in to businesses in the area overnight on Tuesday.

As we reported yesterday, one incident was described as a group of men with face masks trying to break through roller shutters.

Now, it has emerged an attempt was made to crow bar open metal shutters at Sainsbury's petrol station on the same night, while in another report a group of teenagers wearing hoodies were spotted trying to break open a garage door.

Police say they are not currently linking the incidents - but are open to the possibility.

The men wearing face masks were seen trying to break into the Co-op shop at Ambleside Drive just after midnight on Tuesday.

CCTV cameras at the store recorded images of the attempted break-in.

The men, described by police, as "wearing dark clothing with face masks" damaged the sliding door of the main entrance, but could not break through the roller shutters.

A spokesman for the Midcounties Co-operative said: “An incident took place at The Lakes store on September 6, and we are helping the police with their investigations.”

However, the spokesman said CCTV images from the break-in were not being released.

Someone also tried to crow bar open the metal shutters to attempt to break into Sainsbury's petrol station in Windermere Drive at around 1.40pm.

They fled after setting off the alarm. Staff from Sainsbury's refused to comment.

Not long before, four youths, described as aged around 15, and wearing black and grey hooded tops, were spotted attempting to break open a garage door at a nearby premises on Amberley Close, Warndon.

That incident took place at about 1.15am. They fled after being disturbed.

The same night between 9.30pm on Tuesday and 9.30am on Wednesday, another commercial premises in Ambleside Drive had its rear door damaged. Again, no entry was gained.
