A WOMAN has been spoken to for making a hoax call over a body in the river.

The 24-year-old woman admitted on the scene that they had made the call to get police, fire and ambulance services to Diglis Marina.

She will be spoken to police today about wasting police time.

The emergency services, including a police helicopter searched the water at 10.56pm but did not find a body in the water.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that they were called to Diglis Dock Road and that the call turned out to be a hoax.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said that the caller admitted it was a hoax.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "At 10.49pm West Mercia Police received a 999 call reporting a person in the river Severn near Portland Street, Worcester.

"After a search involving police and fire officers, and a National Police Air Service crew, it was determined that the incident had been falsely reported.

"A 24-year-old woman will be spoken to by officers today about wasting police time."

West Mercia Police inspector Adrian Bean said; "The 999 service provides a vital lifeline for people to contact us regarding critical matters and emergencies.

"Using the service inappropriately detracts from situations when people genuinely need our help.

“Every call takes time to answer and assess properly for our response.

"For every misdirected call we receive, people who do require a police response may have to wait longer to have their call answered at the busiest times.”
