10am UPDATE: The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, was the only person injured following the incident, West Midlands Ambulance Service report.
The lorry overturned just before 12.15am, and one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The lorry driver, a man believed to be in his 50s, was the only patient.
"He was treated for cuts to his head and grazes to his arm before being transported to Worcester Royal Hospital.
“Due to the chemical nature of the incident, HART remained on scene to support fire service colleagues in case of contamination from the chemicals, but were able to stand down without the need to treat any further patients.”
ORIGINAL STORY:
THE M5 Junction 8 southbound sliproad is closed this morning due to an overturned lorry carrying chemicals.
The lorry has come to a rest on its side, and spilt chemicals across the roundabout to access the M50.
Emergency services have been at the incident since midnight, and an extensive clear up operation has been going on.
Once complete, the road will need to be assessed before the go-ahead is given for the road to reopen.
Motorists are also being warned Strensham Services is closed on the southbound carriageway, between Junction 7 and 8.
As M5 south traffic is unable to access the M50, motorists are advised to continue to Junction 9, circulate, and return to the motorway northbound to Junction 8 where they are able to exit.
Motorists are being warned of delays all morning.
