HEADLESS Cross Green is set for an ‘a-peeling’ event at an annual Apple Day in celebration of the humble fruit.

The Community Orchard will host the free family event, featuring an abundance of apple-related activities at its core, from 11am until 3pm on Saturday, October 7.

Redditch's contender to the Mrs Earth pageant, Joedine Scott from Oakenshaw, will open proceedings, whilst compere for the day will be provided by local poet Spoz.

Visitors can have a go at juicing this year’s crop, whilst gardeners with a glut can press apples and pears they bring, or swap surplus produce at the Harvest Share stall.

Craft and food stalls will feature alongside regular favourites like the Human Fruit Machine, and new this addition the Apple-Olympics.

Resident artist Liz Jennings will have her latest orchard painting unveiled, with visitors encouraged to try their hand at creating their own orchard art.

Homemade cider fans can bring a bottle of their own produce to enter into the cider contest. Families are also welcome to take a picnic.

Volunteer Alistair Waugh said: “Orchards are a great way for the community to come together, so why not join us!

“Try your hand on a pole lathe, get your face painted. There's a feast of things to do."
