STAR baker Andrew Smyth was in Worcester to serve cake to workers for Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

The Great British Bake Off finalist baked an exclusive wind turbine showstopper for staff at npower in Worcester.

Mr Smyth chatted to staff about baking with staff as they showed off their own cakes ahead of Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday (September 29).

He said: “Baking is a brilliant way to raise money for such an important cause like Macmillan – it’s lots of fun and is the perfect opportunity to get friends and family together."

"Whether it’s a secret family recipe, a classic or an inventive bake, I’d encourage everyone to give it a go and get involved this year.

"Cancer has a huge impact on the lives of so many people and it’s vital that Macmillan can continue to provide crucial support.

"I’m very proud to be a part of this through my passion for baking."

Sue Warman, senior analyst at npower’s Worcester office, said: “Coffee Morning is such an important event in the calendar and having Andrew as our special guest this year made it all the more exciting.

"He gave me some great baking tips and I look forward to putting them to the test and raising even more funds for Macmillan in the future.”

Catrin Hale, partnership development manager at Macmillan Cancer Support said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the npower employees that got involved with coffee morning this year.

"Having a Bake Off star in our midst has really inspired everyone to get set and bake lots of tasty treats.

"Not only has it been great fun but the funds raised will make a real difference and help Macmillan support the growing number of people living with cancer in the UK."

Beth Gardner, head of community at npower, said: “Our employees really rose to the occasion this year, and we’ve seen a whole range of delicious bakes and fakes!

"It’s been brilliant to have Andrew working alongside us and we hope his cake recipe inspires others to hold their very own coffee morning - we really can change lives with every slice of cake."
