TWO members of staff from a Worcester opticians took on the city’s 10k run to raise funds for a snowsports youth charity.

Optical store director Dean Roberts and dispensing optician Annabel Bird from Specsavers on Broad Street in Worcester raised over £300 for Snow Camp, a charity which helps support young people from the inner-city through skiing and snowboarding.

The money raised from the run will support the £3,000 target set for the Alpine Challenge, a non-stop skiing 150km race in sub-zero temperatures.

Mr Roberts will be joined by fellow staff members Alex Kuligowski, Roisin Connolly and Jurgen Dreyer for the challenge in January 2018.

"As a TGI Friday’s restaurant regular I was pretty pleased with my efforts on the run," said Mr Roberts.

"Big thanks to Annabel for supporting me with this first effort and of course all those who have already sponsored us.

"The Alpine Challenge is a whole other ball game and I know there’s a lot more work to be done in preparing for that icy feat. But the Snow Camp is a great initiative and hopefully plenty of people will get behind the cause and make a pledge to support us."
