A SHOP which has decades of history in Droitwich is up for sale with an asking price of £500,000.

Brookside Fruits has been closed for months, and Andrew Grant estate agents are helping to market the 0.65 acre site in Worcester Road.

The previously store, run by the Saunders family, was originally established in 1976, selling a wide variety of fruit and vegetables.

In 2010, we spoke to owner Tracey Saunders about how the shop had survived following the devastating flooding of 2007.

“It’s been very hard for everyone, but we carry on," she told us.

“You have to keep going because, at the end of the day, it’s what pays the bills.”

At that point the business had diversified, moving on from the sale of their own grown fruit and vegetables to support local growers.

They also began selling flowers they grew through the use of polytunnels.

In the promotional material the site, in Copcut, is described as a "prominent retail unit" and is listed as having a 2,152 sq ft sales floor, and a 25 vehicle space car park.

The guide price is £500,000, being listed with further development potential, subject to planning.

It is available freehold, and with a rateable value of £13,750.
