HUNDREDS enjoyed a hot coffee and chomped on a piece of cake to support the popular Macmillan Cancer Support's Worlds's Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser.

The annual event is one of the biggest held to support people suffering from cancer, with fundraisers nationally all aiming to beat last year's total of nearly £30 million.

Events were held across Worcestershire on Friday, as well as in the run up to the event.

At Sanctuary’s Noble House retirement housing more than £160 was raised through a coffee morning.

The event took place at the Taste restaurant, which is open to the public, with cakes baked by members of staff.

Worcester Sixth Form student council's supported the fundraiser by organising their own bake sale, which was appreciated by staff and students.

Malvern St James school hosted a successful coffee morning, which was also supported by children from Malvern Parish C of E Primary School.

There was lots on offer to keep guests entertained including games such as a treasure hunt, tombola and splat the rat, live music and even a chocolate fountain.

Money raised was still being counted, but it looked like several hundred pounds had been raised.

Olivera Raraty, Malvern St James' headteacher, said: “I’m really grateful to everyone who has come along to contribute to the charity - in particular I would like to thank the girls and staff who have worked hard to plan the event."

Philip Serrell, auctioneer and television personality, was the special guest at a bake off event for Macmillan which took place at Hallmark Hulme in Worcester.

Prizes were awarded for best presentation, best taste and best overall.

At St Clements Church, St Johns, the fundraiser was made extra special with churchwarden Barbara Bishop going the extra mile by having her head shaved for Macmillan.

And events at LDC Kitchens, Worcester Eyecare, Anja Potze Jewellery and Henwick Park Express also proved popular.
