AUTHOR Megan Rix visited The King’s School, Worcester with her two dogs, Bella and Freya, to talk to the children about her latest book, Winston and the Marmalade Cat, the first in a brand new series.

Megan talked to almost 300 Year 5 and 6 children from Pitmaston Primary School and King’s St Alban’s School about her writing process, how her research is transformed into a story and offered some top tips to aspiring writers.

In her latest book, she tells the heart-warming story of nine-year-old Harry who is desperate for a pet of his own but unable to have one.

So, as the next best thing, he decides to get a job at the local animal rescue centre.

One day, he is asked to take a very special birthday present to Chartwell, home of the famous Prime Minister and animal lover, Winston Churchill.

During his visit, Harry learns all about Winston’s past and much-loved pets.

An animal lover and dog trainer, Megan draws inspiration from her own adorable dogs, and loves writing about ordinary animals doing extraordinary things.

Annabel Jeffery, School Librarian, said: “Reading is so important to a child’s learning – helping to stimulate their imagination and expanding their understanding of the world.

“The children were mesmerised throughout Megan’s session and we are delighted to have been one of only ten schools across the UK to have been selected as part of this school tour.”
