A KINGSWINFORD based furniture firm has stumped up cash for six distinctive new trees to spruce up a main road.

Sven Christiansen, which supplies office furniture nationwide, has paid for the six Liquidamber trees to be planted along Stallings Lane near to the firm’s manufacturing base.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “We’re very grateful for this kind gesture by Sven Christiansen, which will help spruce up one of the borough’s busiest roads.

“They got in touch with the council because they wanted to give something back to the community.

“I look forward to seeing the trees grow and blossom over the coming years.”

The trees will be planted next month.

William O’Brien, managing director for Sven Christiansen, said: “Not only do trees improve the look of an area, they also have a cooling effect, and absorb pollutants.

“As a manufacturer using timber, concerned about the environment, we felt that planting trees was an appropriate green initiative that we hope other local firms may follow.”
