DROITWICH Amateur Boxing Club’s Sian O’Toole has been selected by England for the AIBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championships in India.

The 18-year-old will move up to the 60kg category in Guwahati from November 19 until 26 although the team will arrive a week beforehand to acclimatise.

Until then O’Toole will divide her time between Team GB headquarters in Sheffield with training camps in Tamworth, Dagenham and France as well as sessions in Droitwich.

Spa coach Jayson Doyle will work on her strength and power as she steps up a weight.

“Sian is a tall girl so will have no problem moving up and she will be perfectly prepared by the time she flies out to India,” said Doyle.

“Having gone for selection at 57kg, Sian was a little shocked but nevertheless delighted and honoured to be picked for the heavier category but that’s where the Team GB coaches believe she will do well.”

There is another exciting season ahead for Spa boxers, including 14-year-old Joe Doyle.

After winning his first national title in April he will embark on another championship campaign from November when he will also represent an England select team against Ireland in Birmingham.

“The club is going from strength to strength and my fellow coach Jeff Adams and I believe this is one of the strongest squads we have had for a while as we have a great mixture of novices and well-established England boxers,” added Jayson Doyle.

The next generation of Spa boxers are being sought.

The club hold paperweight sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30pm until 6.30pm for eight to 12 year olds to enjoy an introduction to the sport with tuition and games.
