TRAFFIC will be monitored at a busy crossroads in Worcester with a view to improving congestion.

Police will support council workers to enforce existing restrictions limiting access to emergency services, cyclists and buses throughout the day westbound into the city, from Lowesmoor to St Nicholas Street, and eastbound, Sansome Street to Lowesmoor.

There will be two to three days of monitoring per week, starting on Monday, October 16.

The monitoring is due to attempts by Worcestershire County Council to improve bus services in Worcestershire.

The period of traffic monitoring will see improved service reliability and journey times, as well as a better experience for bus users.

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member with responsibility for Highways, said: "We have been working hard to improve bus services in the county, and this traffic monitoring will help to ensure a better experience for bus passengers.

"One of our priorities is to improve journey reliability and reduce journey times, and we'd like to thank the police, bus operators, taxi businesses and local motorists for supporting the monitoring period.

"We very much hope that the monitoring period will result in minimised disruption for fellow road users, and that the ultimately improved bus services will lead to higher passenger numbers, meaning fewer unnecessary car journeys and a better environment for motorists, public transport users and pedestrians."
