LEAGUE tables showing how Worcestershire’s high schools performed in the last year have been revealed.

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College and The Chantry School, Martley, both performed well with 74 per cent of students achieving five or more GCSEs at A*-C/9-4 including English and maths.

There were 71 per cent of students at Nunnery Wood High School, who obtained five or more GCSEs including English and maths.

Bishop Perowne CE College saw 53 per cent achieving five or more GCSEs at A*-C/9-4 including English and maths.

Although this was the lowest among Worcester schools for that result, the school released a statement saying it believed it was in the top 10 secondary schools in Worcestershire based on its Progress 8 measure.

The Progress 8 figures measures how well the pupils have improved during their time at the school.

Mark Pollard, the school's headteacher, said it means that Bishop Perowne is the most improved of all high schools in the county, and is likely to be one of the most improved schools in the country.

He said: “Our Progress 8 score of +0.1 shows that our students performed above the national average across all of their subjects.

"There were large increases in English and maths pass rates and more than a quarter of all grades were A/A* or 7, or better, which is testament to the hard work our team puts in to ensuring our students reach their full potential.

“It also underlines our belief that the result of an Ofsted inspection earlier in the year was very much based on the past.

"Over the last three years we’ve made extensive changes to enhance learning.

"The improvement in outcomes that we always knew was coming wasn’t recognised during the inspection, however the improvement can clearly be seen in the 2017 exam results.”
