EVESHAM United suffered another home disappointment when Didcot Town won 2-0 at the Jubilee Stadium in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One West.

It did not take long for the fixture to come to life with Evesham’s Lewis Powell hitting the side-netting in the second minute from a through-ball by Paul Fahy.

The game continued with both teams fairly even before Didcot put a free-kick from the corner of the box straight over the bar.

The travelling Didcot fans did not have to wait too long for another opportunity only this time it was not to be wasted.

Didcot’s Stuart Cattell met a cross with an unstoppable header which gave Evesham keeper Kevin Sawyer no chance and the visitors a deserved lead.

Undeterred by going behind, Evesham took the game to Didcot and the visitors could not get out of their half for the next 15 minutes.

The opportunities came for the Robins with Linden Dovey making a surging run into the box in the 24th minute but Powell was unable to control the ball.

Just four minutes later, a Mat Liddiard header from a Lorcan Sheehan corner flashed across the face of goal with no Robin to put the ball in the back of the net, leaving Didcot with a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Didcot started to show they meant business, closing Evesham down whenever the home side had the ball.

The hosts' Ethan Moore headed over from a Sheehan corner, one of 12 flag-kicks compared to Didcot’s one.

Didcot stuck to their task, getting forward whenever the opportunity to break came along, and were rewarded in the 55th minute with a penalty.

An error from Matt Bennett and a Leroy Odiero foul on Didcot’s George Reid led to the spot-kick but the same player's strike was superbly saved by Sawyer.

The home side battled to get back into the game with an Adam Mann free-kick going just wide and a Powell shot following a goalmouth scramble unable to find the net.

But Didcot’s Brazilian striker Felipe Barcelos put the game to bed 15 minutes from time when he found himself in acres of space on the edge of the box and picked his spot, putting the ball wide of the keeper.

Evesham came close to scoring a late consolation when Moore hit the post from close range but Didcot took three well deserved-points away much to the disappointment of the 229-strong home crowd.

It was the Robins' fourth home defeat of the season after FA Cup and FA Trophy exits alongside a league loss to Wimborne Town.
