SIR – I read in The Guardian recently that our local MP, Robin Walker, who is also a junior minister in the Department of Exiting the EU, told the Brexit Select Committee that he hadn’t bothered to read any of the impact assessments his department had commissioned to enable him to do his job properly.

We pay our MPs a generous salary to represent our interests in Parliament. Why is it that Robin Walker can’t be bothered to do his job properly?

In the run-up to the referendum Robin was part of the Remain campaign. After the referendum his career interests came first and he suddenly became a Brexiter but he can’t even do this properly if he won’t read the appropriate reports.

Brexit is going to have a bigger impact on our lives than anything else that has happened since the Second World War.

It is vital that our elected representatives do their utmost to do their best for the electorate. At the moment this shambolic government are taking us towards utter chaos.
