A WORCESTERSHIRE MP has disclosed that he received two complimentary trips abroad and a free night at the BAFTAs.

Nigel Huddleston, MP for Mid-Worcestershire, went to the prestigious awards ceremony with his wife and also went on delegations to Israel and Pakistan.

Channel 4 paid £1,840 for the politician to attend the BAFTAs - in his role as a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee – along with his wife.

The Conservative Friends of Israel paid £2,000 for his travel and accommodation during a ‘fact finding delegation’ to Israel in September.

The Pakistani government also spent £3,598 on his food, lodgings and flights when he visited the country as part of another delegation in April.

Mr Huddleston said: “Like most MPs, I occasionally make trips abroad and meet industry and lobbyists in both formal and informal environments as part of my parliamentary duties.

“The purpose and costs of these trips, as well as who paid these costs, is always declared in the publicly available register of members’ interests.

“Such trips are invariably made during parliamentary recess and do not interfere with my duties in the House of Commons.

“In addition to declaring trips, I also post about them on social media and produce a press release to inform my constituents of what I have been doing and why in the interests of full transparency.

“This will not be news to anyone who follows me on social media, reads my website or indeed reads the stories in this paper and other local media.”

The disclosures were made public as part of the register of members' financial interests.

The register also revealed Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, received a private donation of £2,000 from Paul Farrer.

While, Robin Walker had registered a London flat, which must be declared if it is worth more £100,000 or if it provides a rental income of more than £10,000 a year.
