SCHOOLS across Worcester are set to take part in a competition to promote enterprise and entrepreneurship amongst young people.

Birmingham based Smile Education, APSCo Awards for Excellence Recruitment Company of the Year 2017, are working in collaboration with The University of Worcester to launch a the project in the county.

The Royal Grammar school, Bishop Perowne Church of England College in Merrimans Hill Road, and Christopher Whitehead Language College in Bromwich Road, are already participating with more schools expected to sign up.

As an entrepreneur in residence at the university Katy Rees, managing director of Smile Education is passionate about promoting enterprise and entrepreneurship amongst young people.

Ms Rees, a former pupil of Pitmaston Primary School in Malvern Road, Christopher Whitehead and Worcester Sixth Form College in Spetchley Road, said: "I want to inspire young people to consider business, enterprise and entrepreneurship as a genuine career option which is not just exciting but incredibly rewarding. The competition gives pupils the chance to challenge themselves and grow key skills such as team work, innovation and problem solving as well as the chance to win a fabulous money price and a week’s work experience. I'm so excited to mentor some of the pupils along the way and see them present their ideas to our panel of experts."

Jo Murphy, course leader for BA (Hons) entrepreneurship at the University of Worcester said: "We are so pleased to be running this competition with one of our entrepreneurship in residence team to actively promote enterprise and entrepreneurship with local schools. I am really looking forward to seeing the business ideas that are created."

Students will present their ideas on Thursday, March 1.
