MYSTERY still surrounds the future of a former city diner despite plans to turn it into a family restaurant.

The Pinches family - who run a number of establishments in the city - had plans to renovate the building into a new eatery approved by Worcester City Council's planning committee in April.

They were accepted despite concerns from local residents that an outdoor terrace would encourage anti-social behaviour and increase noise.

Assurances were made that the owners would not be extending opening hours or turning the restaurant into an entertainment venue.

The Pinches family are yet to make a comment about the future of the site and whether they are going forward with their family restaurant plan.

Residents in neighbouring Severn Terrace who expressed their disapproval during the planning consultation are still concerned by the possibility of anti-social behaviour in the area.

One resident said: "I haven't heard much about it since they approved the restaurant.

"I know some of the other residents made their feelings known and I still don't like the idea of an outside terrace myself.

"It would cause a terrible amount of noise.

"The owners did say that the outdoor terrace would not just be for drinking and I hope that would be the case if it did open."

"It does look rather sad though now, something does need to be done with it but I just hope it doesn't turn into a bar and we end up with all the noise and anti-social behaviour."

Detroit's in Castle Street closed in May 2016 and still stands in much of the same state as when it closed.

Fences around the building have since been broken and plant pots have been thrown across the old car park.

As well as Brown's, the Pinches family run Bushwackers in Trinity Street and Sin in New Street, along with another Bushwackers nightclub in Birmingham.

Brown's also has a sister restaurant called The Daffodil in Cheltenham.
