AN 18-YEAR-old library advisor was 'disturbed' after receiving letters from a prisoner asking her to go on a date with him.

Simon Follos, aged 43, called Antonia Alberone-Chamberlain 'beautiful' when he met her in the Hive library in Worcester.

When in jail he sent two letters to the teenager, requesting a date and again referring to her beauty.

Ms Alberone-Chamberlain, now 19, said the incidents, which took place in June and August, made her feel uncomfortable.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said: "In August, she was approached by the manager with two letters from HMP Hewell.

"They are four pages in length each. He tells her she is beautiful and asks to go on a date after he is released from prison.

"She said she feared for her safety and was extremely worried especially given they were sent from prison.

"She said she was definitely disturbed by the behaviour."

Ms Lovegrove said Follos felt the teenager was watching him after he approached her for help in the library.

The solicitor added that he then spoke to her again and told her she was beautiful, which made the 18-year-old feel uncomfortable.

Ms Lovegrove said the victim also felt vulnerable and more anxious after receiving the letters.

Ms Alberone-Chamberlain's manager originally opened the letters - to make sure there was nothing threatening inside of them - before delivering them to the employee.

Sunil Jagatia, defending, said Follos suffers from psychological issues and was mentally unstable during the first half of his prison sentence.

Mr Jagatia added: "His behaviour was very inappropriate. He was remorseful at the outset. He's been put on correct medication.

"He doesn't hear voices anymore and doesn't have mood swings."

Keith Stokes-Smith, chairman of the magistrates bench, said: "The main thing going forward is you change your lifestyle."

Mr Stokes-Smith added that Follos was right to be remorseful given his past criminal activities.

The defendant pleaded guilty to harassment without violence and was ordered to pay £100 compensation and is now subject to a two-year restraining order in relation to Ms Alberone-Chamberlain.

He was also jailed for two weeks.

Worcester Magistrates Court heard that Follos is currently serving a six-month sentence for a range of offences.
