EVESHAM United's extended FA Youth Cup adventure came to an end despite a plucky display against Crewe Alexandra's full-time academy.

Neil Hunt's youngsters lost 4-0 but put up a strong fight and were in the game for the first half an hour in front of 205 supporters at the Jubilee Stadium.

Crewe took the lead in the 29th minute when a goalmouth scramble lead to Luke Walsh prodding the ball over the line and the visitors had further chances to scored but went in at half-time just the one goal to the good.

The second half continued in the same vein but goalkeeper Nathan Taylor kept Crewe at bay until the final 25 minutes.

Regan Griffiths scored the second after some slick passing and 10 minutes later, Crewe captain Joe Lynch finished well to seal the verdict.

Substitute Challis Johnson scored with a powerful shot from just inside the box with 10 minutes to play but there was nearly a consolation goal for Evesham to celebrate in the 89th minute.

Bradley Stalley's free-kick was on target but comfortably saved by keeper Will Appleyard.
