A MOTHER has spoken about how she rescued a woman from falling onto railway tracks.

Linda Andrews 64 and her daughter Philippa Conroy 37, of Droitwich rushed to help a woman whose mobility scooter reversed out of the lift too far at Worcester Foregate Street station to the brink of falling onto the tracks.

They then saw a man on the other side of the platform leap onto the tracks to help lift the woman away from the edge of the platform.

Mrs Andrews said: "A woman on her mobility scooter reversed out of the lift but then kept on going, she was shouting for help.

"Me and my daughter rushed to help stop her going over the tracks, if we had not been there she would have gone over. Her scooter was halfway over the tracks.

"A man leapt over from the other side onto the railway tracks and helped her back onto the platform, he risked his life.

"He was probably in his 50s or maybe 60s, he lifted her from on the tracks as she was halfway over and we lifted her from the platform.

"A young in his late teens or early 20s also helped and a lady probably in her 40s.

"Not long afterwards a train came along so he could have been killed, I am not sure exactly how long after as it all happened so quickly.

"Without our help she would have certainly fallen onto the tracks, there were no guards or staff anywhere to be seen.

"There needs to be more guards and staff at the station in case something like this happens again I thought it was disgusting that no guards or porters came to help.

"There were lots of people sitting down who did not try to help, I would like to thank the people who did help, we could not have done it without you."

The rescue happened at around 2pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for London Midland said that they had a member of staff on duty dealing with another passenger so he did not see the incident.

The spokesman said the member of staff offered his assistance after seeing the woman affected but she opted to continue her journey.
