BROMSGROVE Sporting’s Birmingham Senior Cup tie with Nuneaton Town had to be abandoned last night after midfielder Liam Spink suffered a suspected broken leg and dislocated ankle.

Spink underwent successful surgery today following the 77th-minute incident. Nuneaton had led 2-1.

  • Kidderminster Harriers saw off cellar dwellers North Ferriby United 4-0 with a first-half performance described as “electric” by boss John Eustace.

A brace from captain Ryan Croasdale and goals from Elton Ngwatala and Joe Ironside decided matters before the break as Harriers moved up to eighth in National North.

“With the effort they put in at York, they were magnificent,” said Eustace. “I was a little worried going into the game but in the first half they were electric. We scored four great goals and it could have been more.”

  • Hereford made it nine goals without reply in four days with a 4-0 bashing of St Ives Town in the Southern League Premier Division.

Loan signing Tyrone Duffus got the ball rolling with John Mills notching twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half and Mike Symons wrapping up the scoring late on.

The only negative for boss Peter Beadle was a hamstring strain for Duffus, who has three goals in two Bulls appearances.

“We’ll see how he is on Thursday,” said Beadle. “Coming out of under-23s football, he’s had two games in a week and played ever so well in both of them. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious but we will see.”

  • Redditch United opened the floodgates to flush away Frome Town and their recent barren spell in the Southern League.

Returning talisman Ashley Sammons, who almost caught out keeper Nick Evans with a 50-yard lob, guided inside the far post in the 21st minute after Nathan Fox had drilled in from the left.

The second was a carbon copy as Fox provided the ammunition for Dior Angus to slam in from six yards less than two minutes after Sammons had struck.

Chances kept coming for the Reds and it was three just after the break when Orrin Pendley latched on to ex-Worcester City captain Danny Jackman’s overhit cross to rifle in from a seemingly-impossible angle.

Kevin Monteiro kept his cool to roll the fourth under Evans in the 51st minute and should have had a second just past the hour but saw his one-on-one effort from eight yards deflected wide.

Redditch did live dangerously for a spell after Mitchell Page slammed in from close range with Frome’s star turn Jon Davies testing Ethan Ross on a couple of occasions before the hosts settled back into their stride.

  • Stourport Swifts lost 4-0 at home to Walsall Wood in the Polymac Packaging Midland League Cup, while Westfields endured a frustration having set off before their Premier Division clash at Shepshed Dynamo was postponed.
