THE second round of Winter League games for Bransford produced a first for the league in its nine-year history.

Over the years just one team has managed to win all of its six pairings, but now one side has achieved the dubious distinction of finishing a round pointless. Bransford were the team to pick up maximum points and it was Wharton Park who returned home empty handed at Little Lakes.

The host club Little finished the day on nine points, closely followed by Bransford on eight and The Staffordshire seven.

It means the running totals at the half-way stage sees Little Lakes leading the way with 16 points to Bransford’s 15. The Staffordshire are on 10 and Wharton Park on seven.

Results: Phil Smith/Phil Hobby (Little Lakes) halved with Mike Evans/Peter Round (The Staffs); Dave Miller/Lee Dyment (Bransford) won against Alan Barton/Stuart Manser (Wharton Park); Gerry Rebbeck/Dave Ryall (Bransford) won against Ian Wilson/Les Ferguson (Wharton Park); Gary Coomber/Colin Moore (Little Lakes) won against Brian Toon/Mark Johnson (Wharton Park); Rob Blake/Adrian Wood (Bransford) lost to Keith Archer/Linton Bell (The Staffs); Roger Collins/Al Brown (Little Lakes) won against Dave Slade/Ken Samuels (Wharton Park); Graham Wilks/John Phillips (Bransford) won against Terry Langford/Mike Barnes (The Staffs); Phil Spencer/Neil Sheldon (Bransford) lost to Eddie Bye/Tony Addington (Little Lakes); Steve Phillips/Roger Turley (The Staffs) won against Frank Wheatcroft/Andy Baker (Wharton Park); Mike Davidge/Alan Wallcroft (Bransford) won against Paul Bridgwater/Ray Robinson (Little Lakes) and Ken Smith/Les Westwood (The Staffs) won against John Enderbury/Terry Allsop (Wharton Park).

Bransford Seniors’ November Stableford produced some creditable scoring in spite of damp and windy conditions.

Mike Murley (18) led the way in Division One with 38, followed by Alan Ford (12), David Wild (13) and Richard Steele (15) who each had 36.

John Tanfield (18) was next on the list with 35 and then came Rob Blake (15) and David Parry (17) both with 34. Andrew Jarvis (23) went one better in Division Two to win by three points with 39, just one ahead of Geoff Aston (21), while John Phillips (20) was third on 35. Fourth spot was claimed by Roger Clark (23) on 32 and then came Bill Bowen (20) with 31 and Paul Edlin (24) and Peter Appleton (20) who both had 30.

The winning tally in Division Three was also 39 by Martin Linley and then came Roy Mayo on 36 and Robin Brighton with 33. Andy Falconer (26) also finished with 33 and then came Dave Harvey (28) on 31, and Brian Corfield (26) and Jeff Carlisle (28) both with 30.

Impressive scoring from Wayne Harris saw him win the club’s Turkey Trot Stableford with a haul of 42 points, two ahead of both Andy Kennedy and Lesley Lammas. And 42 was also good enough for Lyndon Gardner to win Division Two as he finished six ahead of Mervyn Miles and nine ahead of Andy Goodall on 36 and 33.
