NOW in its 25th year, the Victorian Christmas Fayre – organised by Worcester City Council – is one of the most successful street fayres of its kind in the Midlands –contributing an estimated £7million to the local economy each year. So what do you need to know?

When is it?

Thursday, November 30, until Sunday, December 3.

Opening times are noon until 9pm on Thursday, 11am until 9pm on Friday, 10am until 8pm on Saturday and 11am until 5pm on Sunday.

The Fayre will open at midday on Thursday but the official start is from 4.30pm with a community Carol service taking place at Worcester Cathedral followed by the official opening in the Cornmarket at 5.30pm.

It's going to be busy

The Fayre attracts around 130,000 visitors over the course of the four days so expect it to be busy. Friday and Saturday are usually the busiest days.

You'll see lots of fancy dress

It's not called the Victorian Fayre for nothing. Stall-owners will be dressed up with Victorian characters wandering the streets. You can also experience a Victorian slum, as the Clik Clik Collective will be producing Gin Lane. Head between New Street and The Shambles between 5pm and 9pm on Friday and 4pm and 8pm on Saturday where you'll find urchins, drinking, hawkers and magic bringing Victorian Worcester alive.

There's a fun fair

The traditional Victorian carousel will be spinning in the Cornmarket, with lots of rides available on the fun fair on the car park.

And stalls

Nearly 200 stalls will fill the streets of Worcester offering everything from sparkling jewellery to festive home decorations, as well as tasty treats including mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

They'll be performances on practically every street corner

There are plenty of choir performances and dance displays.

Choirs from Regency High School, St. Clements, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Oldbury Park, Dines Green and Cherry Orchard Primary Schools will be brightening up the days.

And don't forget the stilt-walkers and walkabout entertainers - with the Victorian Festive Gentlemen Jugglers among them.

You can also see the Appleyard Dancers, the Worcester Ukulele Club, the Rock Choir, Worcester Male Voice Choir and Worcester Concert Brass plus buskers on nearly every corner.

Where exactly is it?

The Fayre will be located in New Street, Friar Street, Pump Street, High Street, the Cornmarket and Cathedral Square.

Entertainment stages will be located in Cathedral Square, Bell Square and at the Cardinals Hat, with additional performances taking place on New Street, the Shambles and around the city centre.

How do I get there?

County Hall will once again provide a Park and Ride service. The 910 service will run from County Hall to Worcester Crowngate Bus Station on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3.

It's being run jointly by Worcestershire County Council and First Bus Group.

Park and Ride services will operate from 8.35am to 8.10pm every ten minutes on Saturday and from 9.45am to 5.10pm every fifteen minutes on Sunday.

Ticket prices range from £3 per adult, £1 for children under 16 years, £7 for a group ticket this include the driver and up to six passengers and children under-5 travel free of charge.

What about parking?

Parking at Worcester City Council car parks is free after 9pm and only £1 at selected car parks between 7pm and 9pm.

If you’re visiting for the day, all day parking starts from £3.50.

It's also free on Thursdays after 6pm (between November 23 and December 21) and on Sunday you just pay for two hours and get the rest of the day free.

Crowngate is offering £1 all day for Sunday as well as every evening after 5pm.

The NCP Cathedral Plaza car park has all day parking for just £3.60 if you arrive between 6.30am to 9.30am for a stay up to 12 hours the same day.

Is anywhere shut?

The Cornmarket car park will be shut from the afternoon of Wednesday, November 29 until the morning of Monday, December 4.

Queen Street (St Nicholas Street to the Trinity) will be closed from 6pm on Wednesday until 11pm on Sunday.

Mealcheapen Street, Cornmarket, New Street, Charles Street, Pump Street (Charles Street to the Shambles), Union Street, Friar Street and High Street will all be closed from 4am until 11pm on Thursday, 8am until 11pm on Friday, 7am until 9pm on Saturday and 8am until 11pm on Sunday.

High Street (Pump Street to the Cross), The Shambles and Copenhagen Street will be shut from 7am to 11pm on Thursday, 8am until 11pm on Friday, 7am until 9pm on Saturday and 8am until 11pm on Sunday.

Pump Street (Shambles to High Street) will be shut from 9am to 11pm on Thursday, 8am until 11pm on Friday, 7am until 9pm on Saturday and 8am until 11pm on Sunday.

Angel Place will be shut from 10am until 11pm on Thursday and Friday, 10am until 9pm on Saturday and 10am until 8pm until Sunday.

• Victorian Fayre visitors will also see extra security measures this year with large concrete blocks in Worcester City Centre. 

The blocks have been independently tested to ensure they can withstand a vehicle being driven in to them at speed.

Concrete blocks have been placed at Copenhagen Street just before the entry to the Guildhall, Broad Street by The Shambles, Friar Street and The Cross where it meets the High Street.

Pedestrian barriers have also be installed around the roadside perimeter of Cathedral Square.
