ANGRY readers took to social media and the Worcester News website after hearing the news they face more motorway misery in the new year.

We reported that the M5 improvement work is set to move to Junction 6, and the Sixways roundabout in January.

Highways England say it is vital improvement work, which motorists will benefit from in the long term but officials have not given a firm completion date, only saying it will be completed by the end of 2018.

Jane Humphries posted: “One of the reasons I retired was the persistent and over running road works on the M5.

“It was a nightmare driving up to Birmingham each day.

“There seem to be very few days when there isn’t a hold-up somewhere.”

Mike Fudger said: “The road works are just never-ending.

“But will it improve matters? We will see.

“Traffic in Worcester is a joke.”

Dean Bowkett said: “Highways England are not fit for purpose.

“They show a total inability to complete work in an effective and timely manner.”

Patsy Lee joked: “I’m emigrating - I have nothing further to say.”

Alec Price said: “You could just leave it as it is.

“Does anyone actually believe it will be any better when it’s finished?

“Smart motorways haven’t actually achieved anything either, a waste of time and money.

Russ Thomas said: “The work needs to be done, that’s a fact as the queues are ridiculous.

“It’s a motorway junction, no houses close by - illuminate the area and work not only in the day but also through the night.”

But Sioux Hine was more positive, saying: “Short term pain, long term gain.

“Get a grip.”
