A CHRISTMAS event helped raise almost £900 towards installing life-saving equipment in an area of Malvern.

Saturday’s event in Barnards Green saw a star-studded guest list, including Father Christmas, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Minions as well as Magic Russ and Dave The Wonder Dog.

The Christmas extravaganza helped raise cash towards funding one or two Heartstart defibrillators to be placed in the suburb.

As part of the festivities, Christmas music was provided by local bands and choirs and youngsters could meet Santa in his grotto.

Chairman of the Traders Association Jane Knowles said: “We had the biggest turn out of local families and some wonderful activities for them to enjoy.

“It is a lovely win-win community event. The traders always ensure that a lot of the activities are provided free of charge because we know how tough it is for parents at this time of year. It is our way of saying thank you for their support throughout the rest of the year.”

She added: “The ‘real’ unicorns were a great hit, with lots of children having their photo whilst sitting on them. Magic Russ and Dave the Wonderdog puppet show were brilliantly funny and cheeky as usual, making all the kids roar with laughter.

“We were also lucky to have lots of children who had been really good this year and so received a free early Christmas present when they visited Santa in his grotto.
