A STAGGERING eight million litres of flood water has been pumped out of Droitwich High Street by the fire service.
The town's historic shopping strip was submerged under 10ft of water on Friday, causing destruction and devastation to numerous shops.
In one pet shop all but two hamsters were killed by the water and the Salvation Army charity shop, which was due to open for the first time on Saturday, lost all its stock.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service used their high volume pump to remove the water and today revealed that they pumped out a total of approximately eight million litres - the equivalent of eight Olympic-sized swimming pools.
The pump has proved vital over the past four days.
As well as removing water from homes and businesses in Tenbury Wells, it was used at an electricity sub-station in Blackpole, Worcester, saving 2,500 of people from being without power.
The pump is now in the Herefordshire village of Hampton Bishop which was flooded when the near-by river Lugg burst its banks.
