PEOPLE have been warned to take care this morning after the temperature dropped to -9 last night, turning already snow-covered roads into an icy hazard.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice until at least 11am today.

The forecast is for a sunny, but very cold start with severe frost, ice and some freezing fog patches which will be slow to clear.

Worcester City Council tweeted: "Be careful out there! It's a bitter -9 in Worcester. Only travel if you need to allow plenty of extra time and be super careful."

Pershore was among the coldest places in the UK last night with temperatures dropping to -11.3.

Many schools have stayed closed across the region, citing unsafe travel and site conditions for children - here's our list.

Drivers have been warned to take extra care.

Traffic officer Dave Harford has advised drivers to slow down and increase distances.

He said: "It's important all windows are fully clear before setting off and ensure the washer bottle is topped up."
