PARENTS, staff and pupils at a city primary school spent the morning clearing snow so they can open on Wednesday.

St Clement's CE Primary School in Worcester has been closed since Monday following heavy snowfall over the weekend.

Staff and parents were keen to ensure that the school could open tomorrow and didn’t want the snow and ice to hold back learning any more.

Kate Brunt, CEO of the Rivers CE Academy Trust said: “Staff believed it would be a great community team building exercise if parents and staff could meet at the school with shovels this morning to clear the site.

"We were amazed and delighted with the amount of people from the local community who turned up to support the school.

"As a trust we are always keen to open our schools but safety always comes first.

"This is our way of ensuring pupils are safe when they come back tomorrow.”

One parent who helped clear the snow said: “It’s been a fun morning where parents staff and children have worked hard together to make the site and pathways safe, even ending up with a great snowball fight!”

Lisa Long, head of school at St Clement’s said: “St Clement’s is a wonderful school embedded in the local community and this shows the commitment of staff and parents to keep going through all weather.”
