A SPECIAL IT course hosted by a Worcester school has helped families in the city learn more about modern technology.

Family Learning ICT courses were introduced at Elgar Technology College. A group of parents of Elgar students and parents of pupils from feeder primary schools attended the course in the school's video conferencing and training suite.

Teachers also went out into the community to teach a focus group of parents and children from the travelling community at Warndon Community Centre, St John's Library and Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club.

Debbie Band, who led the course, said: "It was very successful and some of the learners will be going on to develop their skills further.

"The course gave parents an insight to what their children are learning in school and encourages them to set aside time to work with their children at home.

"Using the Microsoft Office suite, learners gained basic computer skills."
