RESIDENTS and businesses are being urged to keep up-to-date with the weather and the risk of flooding even though river levels are falling.

The Environment Agency said it is keeping a close eye on the weather after reports of 30mm (1.18 inches) rain would fall in some places today.

Spokeswoman Lyn Fraley said if heavy rain did fall it would probably affect the River Avon and its tributaries the most, but added the agency did not expect the water to rise too much.

However, she said people should remain vigilant about the weather.

"The levels in the lower region of the river Severn are falling," she said.

"However, we would urge people to look at the website www.environment-agency.gov.uk and call the floodline on 08459 881188 for the latest warnings and make sure they understand what is happening and where.

"People shouldn't go out without having checked first."
