A 40-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault in the Cattlemarket car park in Worcester.

The man, from Worcester, was arrested earlier today (Thursday, December 14) on suspicion of sexual assault and remains in police custody at this time.

The victim, a woman in her 50s, was walking under the viaduct by the entrance of the car park shortly before 5.30am on Tuesday (December 12), when the incident took place.

A man was said to have approached her from behind at the junction of Castle Street and Croft Road and put his hands over her face and touched her inappropriately over her clothing.

Police released images taken from CCTV footage of a man they wanted to speak to in relation to the incident on Wednesday before making the arrest.

Detective Inspector John Cashion from Worcester CID said: “This was a very frightening incident for the victim and specialist officers continue to support her.”

Following the attack, reassurance patrols were carried out in the area.
