SIR – Why are people so surprised that the NHS is in dire straits?

After so many years of austerity (cuts) public services are on their knees.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital has not met the 18-week treatment target for hip replacements for more than four years, and that’s with the permission of the Secretary of State for Health.

So having waited 53 weeks for my hip replacement last year I was surprised to see Mr Hunt saying that cutting non-essential operations was something he regretted.

He has allowed executives at Worcester hospital to ration treatment for years.

Robin Walker MP knows about the failures of Worcester Hospital as my family informed him and sought his assistance last year, but what action has he taken?

None that I have been made aware of.
